Teater Albatross

From Maidanek to East Congo

Teater Albatross is an independent theatre company with a deep commitment to social issues and an international tour schedule. Our roots are in the physical approach to drama (Jerzy Grotowski), although we also have a long history of performing narrative drama.

We have set up a number of productions that deal with the Holocaust and the Yiddish culture that all but disappeared after the Second World War, including performing inside a barrack at the Maidanek concentration camp before an audience of Holocaust survivors.

We also have a strong focus on Africa. We have been involved in numerous tours and partnerships in Cameroun and Congo (DRC). In Cameroun, we acted against over-fishing by performing in local fishing villages. We have produced stage plays and films on the subject, which have been well received in Cameroun. We have toured Congo – including East Congo – with a production that formed part of the 50th Independence Day celebrations.

We occasionally arrange seminars, conferences and festivals on interesting topics. We perform in Swedish, English and French. I Sweden, our base is a large theatre in the countryside south of Gothenburg with accommodation for up to twenty people. You are most welcome to come and stay with us.
